How I helped my first Chinese client to achieve Airbnb Superhost

2 years ago I founded Happy Host with my partner Eugene(www.happy-host.co). And Echen was my first Chinese client. Last month I helped Echen to reach the Airbnb Superhost status. This might be a very important milestone for Happy Host.

Statics show that now there are 126 Chinese Superhosts, and they only take up 2% of all the Chinese hosts on Airbnb. We all know it is so difficult to get a Superhost status on Airbnb, and when it comes to Chinese, it could be even more difficult.

It all started from how I found Happy Host. 2 years ago I even don’t know what Airbnb is. At that time I started to manage my colleague Eugene’s Airbnb account. Me as a Chinese had never been to Spain before (and now), end up managing 30 around apartments in the center of Barcelona listed on my partner Eugene’s Airbnb account.

Thanks to Eugene, he let me reply every question and respond to all the emergencies from our guests. That was also the first time I learned how to use google to find out everything my guests need: Which metro line they should take. Which is the most popular restaurant/bar/boutique shop in each neighborhood. How far is the beach to the apartment. Once I even used google 3D map to figure out if the apartment is facing the street or the buildings. ( You never know what kind of question the guest gonna ask.) Sometimes there’s also some last-minute emergencies I need to handle: The elevator can not fit in a wheelchair. The apartment is not available due to some management problems when the guests check in. Guests complain about they can not get an early check-in…

From that time I learned a lot about how to be a good host. How to handle all the emergencies remotely. How to communicate with landlord and guests. Luckily we got many almost 5 star reviews. With my partner Eugene’s help and support, we found our first startup company: Happy Host (www.happy-host.co) .

At first, I didn’t expect our business could expand to China until one day I got Echen’s email. He was traveling around the world with his girlfriend when he just listed his apartment in Beijing on Airbnb. When he was searching Airbnb host helping companies on the internet, he found our website. This is exactly what we want to do when we built Happy Host — Help people to travel more, earn more. Share their homes with other people when they are traveling. Thanks to my previous hosting experience, I managed to achieve almost 100% respond rate, 0% cancellation. Almost 100% 5-star reviews. And eventually got the Superhost status for Echen in 3 months. Here's Echen's profile: https://www.airbnb.com/users/show/28369379

From the whole experience, it seems really interesting for me. I have never met Echen before and now, and it’s Airbnb connect me with him and got the Superhost status. ( Now they are still traveling around the world). And thanks to Airbnb I have built great connections with different people around the world, they are hosts, guests, cleaning companies, real estate agencies… So far we have built partnerships with landlords from different cities around the world: Barcelona, Bali, Hangzhou, Beijing… Everyone from every city has its own story. Thanks to Airbnb I have had a really wonderful journey!

In the end, I need to thank my partner Eugene and my client Echen. Without their trust and support, I can not achieve all these successes.
